For university Facilities and IT
Students already walk past every fountain, restroom and printer. Campus Fountains lets them report what's broken or out of supplies from where they stand, checked by their phone's location, and puts it on one dashboard for your team.
Campus Fountains started at BYU-Idaho, built from the campus's own map data and kept current by students.
Microwaves are being added by students as they find them. Campus Fountains is an independent, student-built project; it isn't affiliated with or endorsed by BYU-Idaho.
No app store and no account needed for students. It runs in any phone browser and can be added to the home screen.
A campus map with floor plans shows every fountain, restroom and printer, and the nearest ones to where they're standing.
Is it working? How cold, how stocked, how fast? Ratings earn points only when the phone is within 150 feet, so reports come from people who are actually there.
Out-of-order and low-supply reports roll up into one list per team, by building and floor, with how many people reported it and since when.
Staff sign in with a one-time code sent to their work email. Each account sees only what its team looks after.
A reporting form nobody uses doesn't help. Campus Fountains gives students reasons to keep checking in.
Students earn points for on-site ratings, keep class-day streaks, and earn a badge for rating every fountain in a building.
Points need the phone to be at the place. The location is used only to check the distance and is never stored with the rating.
Students also report fountains missing from the map or in the wrong spot, with a photo and a pin. A person checks each one before it appears for everyone, and any change can be undone.
We build from your campus map data, such as ArcGIS layers or floor plans. It can sit alongside your official map or replace it, your choice, and every correction students make is recorded so it can go back to the map's owners.
We start small, with part of a campus, and measure whether it helps your team before talking about anything bigger.
If yours isn't here, ask us.
No. It's a website that works in any phone browser, and students can add it to their home screen like an app. Rating doesn't need an account; signing in only saves progress across devices.
Only if you want it to. It can sit alongside your current map and add what campus maps usually lack: whether each fountain, restroom and printer is working right now, kept up to date by the people using them. Or it can become your campus map: every building is already in it floor by floor, with search, "nearest" and indoor directions (in testing).
Students only earn points for a report when their phone shows they're standing at the place (within 150 feet), so the reports that count come from people who actually saw it. Each person can only send a limited number of reports a day, so one person can't flood the list. And an issue on your dashboard shows how many separate reports it has, so one report and ten reports look different. New fountains and moved pins are checked by a person before they go on the map.
Students don't need an account. A phone's location is only used to check the distance to the place and isn't stored with the rating. Staff accounts see reports, not who made them.
Our team reviews new locations and corrections today. Your staff see the issues that affect them on their dashboard.
Tell us which campus and which team you're on, and we'll set up a time to show you the dashboard.
